FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RE: NEW DATE
A truly special event is coming to Benalla on March 18, 2023, as the rural Victorian town of just 15,000 opens its doors to the rest of the country for its first airshow!
Originally taking place on November 5, 2022, the event was sadly postponed due to the effects of La Nina, with much of the region literally under water. Come and celebrate drier conditions and sunshine with us all when the Benalla Airshow takes to the skies on Saturday March 18, 2023.
The Benalla Airshow will see thousands make their way to Benalla Airport to witness the unforgettable sights and sounds of an action-packed airshow. Whether you are a die-hard aviation enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out with the family and kids, there will be something for everyone.
-
Rare and unique warbirds turning back the clock with exciting displays you may not see again!
-
Unbelievable aerobatics from some of Australia’s top champion pilots. From spine-tingling solo performances to hair-raising formations, Benalla Airshow has it all!
-
A mass hot air balloon launch early in the morning of show day.
-
A vibrant ground festival packed with delicious street food, amusement rides for the kids, car displays, glider displays and plenty of entertainment for all.
The airborne entertainment is a must-see spectacle. A huge line-up of aircraft will be in attendance, including fan favourites the Wolf Pitts Pro and Edge 540 aerobatics aircraft; as well as historic warbids like the Mustang, Kittyhawk, Grumman Avenger, CAC Wirraway and Trojan – with more to be announced.
There will also be aircraft displays on the ground, including a glider display featuring historic gliders showcasing the evolution of the aircraft from its earliest iterations some 100 years ago.
Speaking of gliding, the Benalla Airshow will also act as the 70th anniversary of the Gliding Club of Victoria calling the Benalla airport its home. The oldest and largest gliding club in the country, 45-year member Bruce Cowan said the event will be a celebration of the club’s long history in the region.
“As 2022 marks the 70th anniversary of the Gliding Club of Victoria being located in Benalla, it seems fitting to bring an Airshow to Benalla,” he said.
The Benalla Airshow sees the town inviting the wider community to come and celebrate with them. The Benalla Rural City Council, Gliding Club of Victoria and Paul Bennet Airshows are working together to create the perfect family-friendly spectacle that not only provides the sights, sounds and smells that get the heart racing, but also a great celebration of what the Benalla community has to offer.
The airshow is expected to draw large crowds to the region, provide a significant boost to the local economy and inspire the next generation of Australian aviators.
